Veg boxes
How does it work?
If you are interested in our produce, one of the best ways to support us it to sign up for a veg box. Our veg boxes have full choice which means you can fill it with whatever you want on the day of pickup. Please read the below and if you are interested, inquire with us so that we can sign you up
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
A CSA is a farming model which allows individuals to support a farm directly and in return, you get a share of the produce produced on the farm every week until the end of the season. We run a 50 share CSA-style seasonal veg box, starting from June and ending in December. There are two box sizes you can choose from, a half-share (small box, feeds 1-2 people) and a full share (large box, feeds 2-4 people).
In a CSA, you share in the farmers risks and successes; this means that some weeks some of the shares might be a bit lean, but others you share in the abundance. Participating in our CSA allows us to plan, plant and harvest better, reducing waste as we know how much we need to grow for our customers. By becoming a member of our CSA, you become an integral part of Oakcroft and allow us to keep producing food and feeding our local community.
By signing up to our CSA, we ask that you try to commit to us for the season. That means a share of our produce every week until the season ends. Although you could drop out part of the way, it can mean that your share of produce may go to waste if there is nobody to replace your position in the CSA. If you are away on holiday or unwell, you can nominate someone else to receive your share, or you can choose to donate it instead.
How our boxes are different and why we don’t do home delivery
There are so many veg boxes nowadays, most of which are not associated with a farm directly and import produce from around the world. All of our produce is grown on site and is not brought in from elsewhere and is as fresh and local as it gets (please check out our ethos to learn more about how we are different)
We don’t do home delivery of our boxes but have a pickup point for our members to pick up their produce instead. We understand this system might not be for everyone as many prefer home delivery. However, we believe that getting the chance for our members to meet us every week and learning how their veg is produced as well as us meeting you and seeing where our food goes fosters a strong sense of community and builds long term connections. If you pick up from the farm, you are also welcome to walk around Oakcroft and see how your food is produced. If you do not pick up from the farm, get in touch and we would be more than happy to organise a chance for you to visit.
Our pickup points
Once you have signed up to our CSA, you need to decide where you would like to pick up your Veg box from. Pickup windows are usually organised for an evening during the week, for a couple of hours.
Our current pickup points are:
- On Farm at Oakcroft Organics, Malpas, Cheshire
- We are currently organising a pickup point in Whitchurch, Shropshire. Please check back soon!
- We are currently organising a pickup point in Chester, Cheshire. Please check back soon!
Picking up your veg box on the day
On the day of pickup, please arrive in your specified time window that we will confirm. If you are unable to do so, you can nominate somebody else to pick up your box or decide to donate your box instead
All of our produce will be available for you to choose from and assigned a point value. You can then choose to fill your box with your choice of produce up to the value of your share.
As an example, a half share member would pick 5 items, and if you have a full share you can pick 10 items of your choice. It is your decision if you want to fill your box with different produce or all of one thing. There is nothing stopping you from filling your whole box with tomatoes if you want! Depending on availability, there is also the possibility of buying additional produce on the day if your chosen size box is not large enough for you, so do inquire!
If you are interested in becoming a CSA member, please follow this link and inquire with us. If our membership is full, we will keep you on a waiting list in case anyone decides to leave. We plan to expand our CSA capacity in future years, so please keep in touch!
